Melissa, owner and creator of lumière, has always had a flair for interiors and a passion for lighting. Having renovated a number of her own properties, Melissa discovered a gap in the market for a high-end decorative lighting consultancy business and so decided to create her own lighting consultancy hub; offering a bespoke service which caters for the lighting needs of both retail and trade customers. Melissa started this journey with a bricks and mortar gallery in Tunbridge Wells in 2020; the consultation and project side of the business flourished, the e-commerce business was born and lumière is now being run virtually by Melissa and her wonderful team.

lumière was named after the Enlightenment period which began in France during the 18th century. This is known in French as “Le Siècle des Lumières ” (literally, The Century of Lights). Melissa was hugely inspired by this whole episode while reading for her degree in Politics & Translation for Professional Purposes. The Enlightenment period saw a huge social shift across the whole world. People challenged the status quo which lead to historical events such as the French Revolution. How fitting that lumière should end up being born during a global pandemic, at a time when people also gradually changed their lifestyle choices, rethought their priorities and adapted the way they use their homes.
